I used:
4 ply Worsted Weight Yarns.
4.5 MM Hook size or Hook Needed to obtain gauge.
Round Markers.
Gauge:
Approximately 5 rows = 2 inches.
Approximately 5 Hdc = 2 inches.
Advice:
Work the hat 'base' in a continuous round.
Mark new rounds.
Save time, measure your gauge.
Read Before Proceed.
Measure the head you are making your hat for.
Size may vary by each individuals crochet tention!
Be creative and add your own special touch!
Hide all knots and ends inside hat!
You may replace the 'pupils' with buttons, however I do not suggest it for babies.
Step #1:choose a size
Newborn
Approximate Circumference =13.5 inches.
Approximate Crown to Mid Ear = 4.5 inches.
In Brown
Round 1:
Ch 2, 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hook.(6hdc)
Round 2:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. 2 Hdc in ea st around.(12hdc)
Round 3:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(18hdc)
Round 4:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 2 sts, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(24hdc)
Round 5:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 3 sts, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(30hdc)
Rounds 6-11:
Hdc to join(mnr). Hdc in each st around.(30hdc)Fasten Off. Sew in end.
3 Months
Approximate Circumference = 16 inches.
Approximate Crown to Mid Ear = 5.25 inches.
Round 1:
Ch 2, 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hook.(6hdc)
Round 2:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. 2 Hdc in ea st around.(12hdc)
Round 3:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(18hdc)
Round 4:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 2 sts, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(24hdc)
Round 5:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 3 sts, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(30hdc)
Round 6:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 4 sts, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(36hdc)
Rounds 7-13:
Hdc to join(mnr). Hdc in each st around.(36hdc)Fasten Off. Sew in end.
Step #2: Add the border
Working from right to left
Round 1:
Ss to join new color, Ch 1, eavenly sc in ea st around. Ss to join. Fasten Off. Sew in end.
Step #3: Making and Adding a Face
Decide the front of your hat. Lay it out flat, with the front facing you.
Note:
Make all the pieces before attempting to attach them to the hat! This way you can position and move around the parts to get them where you want them.
Ears
In Brown
Row 1:
Ch 7, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 4sts, 3 hdc in last st, now working on other side of foundation ch, hdc in next st, hdc in next 4sts .
Round 2:
Ch 1. Turn. Sc in ea st around. Sc evenly along bottom of ear. Fasten Off.
MAKE 2
Lay hat out flat, choose an even location for placing the ears at both sides of head. Mark with Round Markers. Sew ears onto hat, hiding all knots and ends inside.
Eyes (whites)
In White
Round 1:
Ch 2, 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hook.(6hdc)
Round 2:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. 2 Hdc in ea st around.(12hdc) Fasten Off, leaving a tail.
MAKE 2
Eyes (Blacks)
In Black
Round 1:
Ch 2, 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hook.(6hdc) Fasten Off, leaving a tail.
MAKE 2
Lay hat out flat, choose an even location for placing Antlers at both sides of head. Mark with Round Markers. Position and sew eyes onto hat, add white "highlights' to pupils, then sew pupils to whites of eyes, hiding all knots and ends inside.
Nose
In Red
Round 1:
Ch 2, 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hook.(6hdc)
Round 2:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. 2 Hdc in ea st around.(12hdc) Fasten Off(unless working on larger sized hat), leaving a tail.
Lay hat out flat, choose a location for placing the nose. Mark with Round Marker. Stuff a bit and sew nose onto hat, hiding all knots and ends inside.
Antlers (shorter Piece)
In White
Round 1:
Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.(6sc)
Rounds 2- 3:
Sc to join, sc in ea st around.(6sc)
Round 4:
Sc to join, sc in ea st around.(6sc) Ss to join. Fasten Off, leaving a tail.
MAKE 2
Longer Piece
Round 1:
Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.(6sc)
Rounds 2- 7:
Sc to join, sc in ea st around.(6sc)
Round 8:
Sc to join, sc in ea st around.(6sc) Ss to join. Fasten Off, leaving a tail.
MAKE 2
Stuff (If needed) and sew smaller piece to larger piece, hiding all knots and ends inside.
Lay hat out flat, choose an even location for placing Antlers at both sides of head. Mark with Round Markers. Stuff (If needed) and sew antlers onto hat, hiding all knots and ends inside.

Small Bow: One Size
Round 1:
Ch 2. (2 hdc, 3 dc, 2 hdc, ss, 2 hdc, 3 dc, 2 hdc, ss) all in 2nd ch from hook. Fasten Off, Leaving long tail to wrap around bow center and fasten to hat! Wrap the tail around center approx 9 times. Fasten and sew to hat using tail, hiding all knots and ends inside.
