I used:
4 ply Worsted Weight Yarns.
4.5 MM Hook size or Hook Needed to obtain gauge.
Round Markers.
White Stuffing or fibre fill.
Needle for yarn to sew pieces together.
Scissors.
Buttons, scrap pieces of white and black felt
Gauge:
Approximately 5 rows = 2 inches.
Approximately 5 Hdc = 2 inches.
Advice:
Work the hat 'base' in a continuous round.
Mark new rounds.
Save time, measure your gauge.
Read Before Proceed.
Measure the head you are making your hat for.
Size may vary by each individuals crochet tension!
Be creative and add your own special touch!
Hide all knots and ends inside hat!
Be careful not to sew hat closed while attaching pieces!!
When it says ''sew to project'' or similar, use tail you had left on and needle.
2 - 5 YEARS
Approximate Circumference = 19 - 20 inches.
Approximate Crown to Mid Ear = 6.25 - 6. 5 inches.
BASE
In White
Round 1:
Ch 2, 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hook.(6hdc)
Round 2:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. 2 Hdc in ea st around.(12hdc)
Round 3:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(18hdc)
Round 4:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 2 sts, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(24hdc)
Round 5:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 3 sts, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(30hdc)
Round 6:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 4 sts, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(36hdc)

EAR FLAPS
Lay hat out out flat. Count out 19 sts in front (for face) Mark st #1 and st #19. Starting with st # 1, count left for 9 sts. Mark the 9th st. Then starting with st #19, count right 9 sts. Mark the 9th st.
~Working form right to left on first ear flap.
Row 1:
Draw through new yarn(white), Ch 2(counts as first st), Hdc in next 8 sts.(9sts)
Row 2:
Ch 2(counts as first st), turn. Hdc in next 8 sts.(9sts)
Row 3:
Turn. Hdc in next 7 sts.(7sts)
Row 4:
Turn. Ch 2(counts as first st)Hdc in next 6 sts.(7sts)
Row 5:
Turn. Hdc in next 5 sts.(5sts)

In White

Round 2:
Hdc to join(mnr). 2 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next 2 sts.(17sts)
Row 3:
Ch 1(counts as a st). Turn. Sc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st, 2 dc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st, sc in next 6 sts.(22sts)
Row 4:
Turn. Ss across next 5 sts, sc in next st, 2 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next st.(25sts)
Row 5:
Ss to join(mnr). Turn. Ss across next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, 2 dc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st, 2 sc in next st.(23sts)
Row 6:

EAR BORDER
Using Black.
Starting at top left corner of ear, working left.
Insert new yarn(White or Black), ch 1, evenly sc in ea st around, placing 2 sc in corners. Ss to join. Fasten Off, leaving a tail.
MAKE 2
ATTACHING EARS
Lay hat out flat. Position each ear over an ear flap, pinning top of ear in place 5 rounds down from crown. Sew the top of ear only to the bottom of round 5. Fasten Off.
SNOUT
In White
Ch 2, 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hook.(6hdc)
Round 2:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. 2 Hdc in ea st around.(12hdc)
Round 3:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(18hdc)
Round 4:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 2 sts, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(24hdc)
Round 5:
Hdc to join(mnr). Hdc in each st around.(24hdc) Ss to join. Fasten Off, leaving a tail to sew to project.
BLACK OF NOSE
In Black
Ch 4, 4 dc in beg ch. Fasten Off, leaving a tail to sew to project.
PUTTING THE SNOUT/NOSE TOGETHER
Place and Pin nose to the snout. Think of the black piece as a V with the point at the centre of the snout. Carefully sew in place with needle and tail.
Carefully sew in a mouth to the best of your ability.
ATTACHING SNOUT TO HAT
Position the snout centred, just above the bottom border of the hat. Pin in place Carefully Sew to face, Before closing add some stuffing!
EYES
EYE PATCH
In Black
Round 1:
Ch 2 , 9 hdc in 2nd ch from hook.(8hdc)
Round 2:
Hdc to join(mnr). 2 hdc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next 2 sts. Ss to join, fasten off, leaving tail to sew to hat.
Position patch on left or right side as desired. Sew onto hat.
Cut small leaf shaped pieces of white felt. positioned them onto hat where eyes will go. Place Black 1 inch Buttons on top of felt piece exposing some of the felt. using white thread sew button onto hat, going right through the felt to hold it in place.
EYEBROWS
In White
Ch 9, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in each st across. Fasten Off, leaving a tail to sew to project.
MAKE 2
Position eyebrows across tops of eyes/buttons, sew top side down. Fasten Off.
Aww he's so cute already!
I added felt eyelashes with a touch of hot glue. (Optional)
SPOTS
In Black
Round 1:
Ch 2, 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hook.(6hdc) Fasten Off, leaving a tail to sew to project.
MAKE APPROXIMATELY 15
Randomly sew spots to face, ear flaps, ears, and back of head.
BRAIDS
Cut 15 White and 15 Black Yarn pieces at 30 inches each.
Fold 15 pieces (half white and half black)in half.
Insert hook from inside bottom of ear flap. Draw through the yarn fold as a large loop. Then draw all the yarn ends through the loop to tighten. Adjust the knot to look cleaner. Braid the tie, tie off at bottom using a scrap piece of yarn. tie and knot tight ans securely, or small tight elastic.
