Free Kitty Cat Motif Beanie Crochet Pattern By Niftynnifer



For a better understanding of my crochet patterns please see My special crochet abbreviations.

I used:
Patons Canadiana Medium 4. Yellow
Willow Burrow Worsted Weight 4. White
4.5 MM hook or Hook Needed to obtain gauge.
Round Markers.
I used Safety eyes and nose. I cut the backs off and glued them on. (Optional..you could sew/embroider some in).






Gauge:
Approximately 5 rows = 2 inches.
Approximately 5 Hdc = 2 inches.

Advice:
Work the hat 'base' in a continuous round.
Mark new rounds.
Save time, measure your gauge.
Read Before Proceed.
Measure the head you are making your hat for.
Size may vary by each individuals crochet tension or yarn types!
Be creative and add your own special touch!
Hide all knots and ends inside hat!

~Choose a hat size first

Newborn
Approximate Circumference =13.5 inches.
Approximate Crown to Mid Ear = 4.5 inches.

Using Yellow
Round 1:
Ch 2, 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hook.(6hdc)
Round 2:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. 2 Hdc in ea st around.(12hdc)
Round 3:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(18hdc)
Round 4:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 2 sts, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(24hdc)
Round 5:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 3 sts, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(30hdc)
Rounds 6-11:
Hdc to join(mnr). Hdc in each st around.(30hdc)


3 Months
Approximate Circumference = 16 inches.
Approximate Crown to Mid Ear = 5.25 inches.

Using Yellow
Round 1:
Ch 2, 6 hdc in 2nd ch from hook.(6hdc)
Round 2:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. 2 Hdc in ea st around.(12hdc)
Round 3:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next st, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(18hdc)
Round 4:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 2 sts, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(24hdc)
Round 5:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 3 sts, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(30hdc)
Round 6:
Hdc to join(mnr), hdc in same st. *Hdc in next 4 sts, 2hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * around.(36hdc)
Rounds 7-13:
Hdc to join(mnr). Hdc in each st around.(36hdc)

~Ear flaps
Lay hat out flat. Mark both sides of face where you want to start the ear flaps. Decide how wide you want each ear flap, count toward back of hat 7 or 9sts, depending on the size of ear flap you would like. Mark the last st. Mark the second ear flap the same. The face space should be wider than the back of the head space.

Using same color as Base.
Row 1:
Working from right to left. Ss to to join new yarn into right side marked st. Hdc in ea st across.
Rows 2+:
Hdc in next 2 sts tog, hdc in ea st across, hdc in last 2 sts tog.
End with 2 hdc in last row. Fasten off.
Repeat for second ear flap

~Kitty Cat Motif

Using White
Round 1:
Ch 4. sc in 2nd ch from hook(mnr). Sc in next ch, 3 sc in next ch. Now working along other side of ch, sc in next 2 chs, 2 sc in next ch.
Round 2:
Sc to join(mnr). Sc in same st. Sc in next st, 2 sc in next 3 sts, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st.
Round 3:
Sc to join.(mnr). Sc in same st. Sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st.
Round 4:
Sc to join.(mnr). Sc in same st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sts, Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sts, sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sts, sc in next st.
Round 5:
Sc to join(mnr). 2 sc in next st, (hdc, dc) in next st, (2dc, hdc) in next st, ss in next 3 sts, (hdc, 2 dc) in next st, (dc, hdc) in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sts, sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts. Ss to join. Fasten off. leaving tail.
~Add Eyes, Nose, and other desired facial features.
~Sew motif to hat using tail.

~Add Braided Ties

Cut 30 Yarn pieces at 30 inches each.
Fold 15 pieces in half.
Insert hook from inside bottom of ear flap. Draw through the yarn fold as a large loop. Then draw all the yarn ends through the loop to tighten. Adjust the knot to look cleaner. Braid the tie, tie off at bottom using a scrap piece of yarn, or small tight elastic.
