SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS:

Ch = Chain
Sc = Single crochet
Hdc = Half double crochet
Bl = Back loop
Ss = Slip Stitch
Mnr = Mark new round
Ea = Each
Sp(s) = Space(s)
St(s) = Stitch(es)
Sk = Skip

MATERIALS:
4.5 mm crochet hook.
4.0 mm crochet hook.
For Men's Version ~ Yarn: Patons Canadiana. Colour 'Dark Water Blue'. (1 Ball)
For Women's Version ~ Yarn: Bernat Satin Sparkle. Colour 'Bronze'. (1 Ball).
3 Round Markers 


Hooded Scarves to Crochet


GAUGE:
Note: Gauge is taken from special stitches (not from cuff). Try the cuff by trying it on the hand.
With 4.0 mm hook: 
Approximately 11 sts = 3 inches
Approximately 11 rows = 3 inches

SIZE: Men's or Women's

SKILL LEVEL: MEDIUM
This pattern requires special half double crochet stitches that are worked by inserting the hook between the bottom 2 ridges instead of the top of the previous rounds hdc stitch. The Men's mitt is made using a larger hook while working the cuff to produce a larger cuff size.

INSTRUCTIONS:

STARTING WITH CUFF
For Men's Version ~ start with 4.5 mm hook & Patons Canadiana Yarn.
For Women's Version ~ start with 4.0 mm hook & Bernat Satin Sparkle.
Row 1:
Ch 15. Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in ea ch across.
Rows 2-14:
Ch 2. Turn. Hdc in ea bl across. (13hdc)
Fold ends together. Evenly align stitches. Ss to join. Evenly ss ends together to form cuff.

BEGINNING HAND
PART 1:
NOTE: Mark beginning st of ea round.
Round 1:
Ch 1. Do not turn (working right to left). Evenly work 28 sc's around cuff.
Round 2: 
For Men's Version ~Switch to 4.0 mm hook.
Ss to join in top of beg ch. Do not turn. Ch 2 (mnr). Hdc in ea st around.(28sts)
Rounds 3-11:
Ss to join in top of beg ch (mnr). Do not turn. Hdc in ea st around by inserting hook between bottom 2 ridges of ea st, instead of working in top loops. (The ridges almost look like a V.)(28sts)
Round 12:
Ss to join. Do not turn.(mnr, keep this marker in for later). Ch 14. Sk next 13 sts. Ss in next st.
Round 13:
Ch 1. (mnr). Do not turn. Hdc in next 14 sts(in v). Now working along ch 14. Sc in ea ch across. (28sts)
Rounds 14-31:
Ss to join (mnr). Do not turn. Hdc in ea st around as before(in v). (28sts)
Row 32:
Ss to join. Ch 1. Press mitt flat. Align stitches. Evenly 14 hdc as before(in v) through both sides of top of mitt to close. (Try to work through the 'v' on both sides). Fasten off.


PART 2:
Round 1:
Ss in round marker sp in round 12 of part 1. Repeat round 13 of part 1.
Rounds 2-17:
Repeats Rounds 14-28 of part 1.
Round 18:
Repeat round 32 of part 1.
Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing ends of mitt together.
Carefully sew ends together to form can holder.
Weave in ends.
