I would say this hat is easy to make.
It involves some front post double crochet, as well as single crochet, double crochet and half double crochet stitches, skipping stitches, and decreasing.
MATERIALS
5.0 mm crochet hook.
Red Heart Super Saver Yarn; Medium 4 Worsted, in colour 'Monet'. (Less than a skein)

SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS
Ch = Chain.
St(s) = Stitch(es).
Sk = Skip.
Hdc = Half Double Crochet.
Ea = Each.
Tog = Together
Fpdc = Front Post Double Crochet.
Ss = Slip Stitch.

Beg = Beginning.
Mnr = Mark new round/row. (Using a round marker)
GAUGE
Approximately 11 hdc = 4 inches.
Approximately 7 rows = 4 inches.
One Size~ I measured around my dogs head(under her ears) and she measures approximately 24 inches around. Each ear measures approx. 5 inches wide. She is a smaller Saint Bernard, weighing approximately 120 pounds.
INSTRUCTIONS
Row 1:
Ch 57. Ss in beg ch to join (forming a large ring). Do not twist ch). Ch 3. Do not turn. Dc in ea ch across. (56dc) Ss in top of Ch 3 to join. (Should be able to stretch to approx 24 inches).
Rows 2 - 4:
Ch 2. Do not turn. Fpdc over ea post across. (56sts) Ss in beg ch 2 to join.
Row 5:
Ch 2. Do not turn. Hdc in next 8 sts. Ch 12, sk next 12 sts(forming ear hole). Hdc in next 16 sts. Ch 12. Sk next 12 sts (forming 2nd ear hole), hdc in last 8 sts. Ss in ch 2 to join.
Row 6:
Ch 1. Do not turn. Sc in next st (mnr). Sc in ea st/ch around. Hdc in beg sc to join. (mnr)
Row 7:
*Hdc in next 9 sts. Hdc in next 2 sts tog.* Repeat from * to * around. Hdc in last sts. Hdc to join. (mnr)
Row 8:
*Hdc in next 8 sts. Hdc in next 2 sts tog.*Repeat from * to * around. Hdc in last sts. Hdc to join.

Add a large Pom pom on the top.
Make a 4 inch Pom Pom(See video for help with pom pom), and Attach it to the top of the hat. Using the longer string you tied the pom pom with, and a needle. Draw the ends through the top of hat from outside to inside. Knot and weave in ends on inside of hat.
Add some braided ties. I used 24 pieces(32 inches long) of yarn for each braid. There is a wonderful post on How To Add Braided Ties >HERE<.
Make a 4 inch Pom Pom(See video for help with pom pom), and Attach it to the top of the hat. Using the longer string you tied the pom pom with, and a needle. Draw the ends through the top of hat from outside to inside. Knot and weave in ends on inside of hat.
